XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) is a standardized digital format Indian listed companies use to file financial statements and disclosures with SEBI and the stock exchanges electronically, rather than as unstructured PDFs.
How It Works
Because every company tags its financial data using the same standardized structure, XBRL filings can be read and compared programmatically — by regulators checking for compliance issues, by analysts and data providers building comparison tools across companies, and increasingly by retail-facing platforms that pull structured financial data straight from these filings instead of manually transcribing annual reports. As a trader or investor, you're unlikely to interact with raw XBRL files directly, but the financial data shown on most stock research platforms and broker apps is often sourced from exactly this pipeline.
